Hannesson Murphy is a partner in Barnes & Thornburg LLP's Indianapolis, Indiana office and is a member of the firm's Labor and Employment Law Department. Mr. Murphy has litigated a wide variety of matters in state and federal courts, including charges of discrimination, harassment, and wrongful discharge.
Mr. Murphy graduated cum laude from Florida International University in Miami, Florida with a B.A. in International Relations. He attended the University of Miami School of Law and graduated cum laude in 1997. Mr. Murphy clerked for the Honorable David M. Gersten of Florida's Third District Court of Appeals. Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, he served as an attorney with the civil litigation firm of Clarke Silverglate Campbell Williams & Montgomery in Miami, practicing in all areas of general civil litigation, including employment, medical malpractice, products liability, commercial liability, insurance defense and personal injury.
Mr. Murphy was appointed president of the Dade County Defense Bar Association in 2004 and 2005. During his tenure, he helped guide the association through the inauguration of its website, the adoption of an official logo, and its first half-day seminar. Mr. Murphy presided over regular CLE luncheons with a variety of speakers, including federal and state judges and prominent local attorneys. He also served as the Commercial Liability Chair for the Florida Defense Lawyers Association. Mr. Murphy is a recipient of the Exceptional Performance Citation from the Defense Research Institute.
Mr. Murphy is admitted to practice in Indiana, Florida, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Supreme Court, the Seventh and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeal, and all U.S. District Courts for Indiana and Florida. He is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana.
