Heather practices in the firm's Creditors' Rights & Bankruptcy group. She has considerable experience with creditors' rights matters and with litigation of those matters. Heather assists clients with reorganizations, commercial bankruptcy, commercial landlord/tenant enforcement, large collections, contractual matters, and in matters concerning Alabama real property tax lien law. Heather regularly assists clients in filing lawsuits to enforce contractual obligations and in handling commercial real property foreclosures and receiverships. Heather is licensed to practice law before the state, federal, and bankruptcy courts in Alabama and Mississippi. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Birmingham Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute and the International Council of Shopping Centers. In April of 2011, she was a panelist for the I-WIRC Alabama Network Work-Life Balance Panel. Heather has lectured on "Drafting and Enforcing Commercial Leases" (Sterling Education Services, Inc., November 2007), "Landlord/Tenant Law in Alabama" (Sterling Education Services, January 2006), and "Current Bankruptcy Issues in Chapter 7, 11, and 13: Landlord/Tenant Law and Bankruptcy" (Birmingham Bar Association Bankruptcy/Commercial Law Section, October 2004). Heather received her B.S.B.A. with a major in accounting from Samford University in 1999, her Master of Accountancy from Samford University in 2002, and her J.D. from Cumberland School of Law in 2002. During law school, she served as a representative to the Student Bar Association. She was also a Cordell Hull Teaching Fellow and a recipient of the George M. Stewart Banking Award. Heather was a 2010 Nominee for the Alabama/Gulf Coast Chapter Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Woman of the Year and has served on the Advisory Board for Hands on Birmingham, which is an Alabama non-profit corporation committed to providing flexible, hands-on volunteer opportunities for individuals whose work and life time challenges prohibit their active involvement in traditional volunteer programs.
