Mr. Lee is chair of the Estate Planning Section of the Business and Corporate Group of Howard & Howard. He focuses his practice on business law, estate planning, and tax law.
Mr. Lee brings a business background to his practice of law. Prior to joining Howard & Howard, he ran his own law firm, and has also in the past owned and operated an international business and developed commercial and residential real estate. In addition, Mr. Lee is active within the charitable community and has served as a director and officer of various charities. His business experience and philanthropic background assists him with looking at legal issues from both the perspective of an attorney as well as a client in order to properly meet the goals and expectations of his clients.
Mr. Lee has been designated a "Michigan Super Lawyer" by a survey of Law and Politics Media, Inc., and, pursuant to a peer review survey, as one of the "Top Lawyers" by dBusiness, Southeast Michigan's Journal for Business. The Detroit Institute of Arts appointed Mr. Lee to the Tannahill Estate Planning Council. He is a past chair of the Estates & Trusts Committee of the Taxation Section of the Michigan Bar, and chaired the Summer Tax Conference for the Tax Section of the State Bar of Michigan. He has served as a Member of the Tax Council of the State Bar of Michigan's Tax Section. He has been a member of the American Law Institute - American Bar Association Faculty (ALI-ABA) and has made audio, video and in person presentations for them. Mr. Lee has taught numerous courses for the Michigan Institute for Continuing Legal Education as well as the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the Oakland County Bar Association, and other professional groups on Estate and Gifting Taxation, Income Taxation, Partnership Taxation, Trust Planning, Charitable Planning, and Corporate Business Succession Planning. He was the former Chair of the Oakland County Bar Association Tax Committee. Mr. Lee is a member of the Financial and Estate Planning Council of Metropolitan Detroit (FEPCMD).
Mr. Lee has published his writings in various legal publications including the Michigan Tax Lawyer, the Michigan Bar Journal, Estate Planning Course Materials Journal, Audio Estate Planner (American Law Institute-American Bar Association) and course materials for purposes of instructing various law groups for their Continuing Legal Education. He received his B.A. from the University of Michigan and J.D. from Indiana University. He also received a LL.M. in Taxation from the New York University.
