Herbert C. Snyder, Jr., now serves of counsel (retired) in the Fort Wayne, Indiana office of Barnes and Thornburg LLP. His practice has included the full range of legal services for employers, including consultation and advice regarding employment policies and practices, response to union organization attempts, collective bargaining, unfair labor practice and discrimination charges before state and federal agencies, and wage-and-hour law issues. He has represented several of the largest employers in the state and has a broad range of litigation experience involving labor and employment law issues such as age, race, and sex discrimination claims. Several of the cases he handled resulted in precedent-setting decisions. He was elected to the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and has been listed annually in The Best Lawyers in America.
For more than 25 years Mr. Snyder has been an active member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Law Committee of the American Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section. He has spoken frequently at meetings and seminars, including the annual meeting of the American Bar Association.
Mr. Snyder received a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1956. Following a brief career as a naval aviator, he received his J.D. from the University of Michigan, where he was associate editor of the Michigan Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Mr. Snyder is admitted to practice in the state of Indiana; the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana; the Federal, 7th and 8th Circuit Courts; Washington, D.C., District and Circuit Courts; and the U.S. Court of Appeals.
Mr. Snyder has served on the board of trustees of Canterbury School, the board of directors of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the board of directors of Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne, and the boards of numerous other community organizations. He is a past president of the board of trustees of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art.
