Practice/Industry Group Overview

Regional interconnectivity, emerging competition, and environmental pressures often make it difficult to navigate between traditional regulatory systems and modern electric markets.  In this unpredictable environment, having an effective advocate in your corner is key.

Since the early 1980s Holland & Hart attorneys have successfully represented clients in connection with a wide variety of cutting-edge issues involving the electric utility industry.  Our practice has included not only regulatory issues before state utility commissions throughout the Western United States, but also state legislative and federal regulatory issues affecting the entire electric industry.

At the core of Holland & Hart's electric regulatory practice is our representation of large industrial electric consumers.  Holland & Hart founded and continues to represent large industrial electic consumer groups in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, New Mexico and Utah.  We also represent several of the largest companies in the world.

Since 2000, we have successfully expanded this core practice to include representatation of other electric consumers.  Our Colorado group has included metropolitan school districts, large universities, and nationally recognized consumer organizations.  Our lawyers also serve as directors and provide legal assistance to low-income energy assistance groups.  Building alliances and coalitions have enabled Holland & Hart to continue its outstanding track record before public utility commissions and legislatures.

We also represent some of the world's largest independent power producers.  When an independent power producer needs to finalize a deal with a utility or needs regulatory intervention, we have the relationships and experience needed.  We have represented independent power producers before regulatory commissions in Colorado, Montana, Utah and Wyoming.
