Practice/Industry Group Overview
Banking has played a major role in the firm's history and growth. Its first lawyers -- there were three -- were representing local banks before 1900. In 1908, these same lawyers were instrumental in forming the bank that grew to be Colorado's largest.

Services Available
Our attorneys are involved in all aspects of representation, ranging from small loans and regulatory matters to large institutional amalgamations. The firm's long-time representation of United Banks of Colorado, Inc. involved its formation in 1964, its acquisition of over 45 banks and related entities in the next 25 years, and its participation in two of Colorado's largest financial institution combinations: acquisition of IntraWest Financial Corporation in 1987 and merger with Norwest Corporation in 1991.
Lawyers in this group work closely with those in other practice groups. Cooperation of this type recently resulted in the firm's winning, at the federal appellate level, a leading case involving the taxation of national bank core deposit intangibles. Other examples occur in the securities area, where the firm often counsels national and state banks on Glass-Steagall Act questions and allied matters.
