HOWARD J. GOURWITZ received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969 from the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctor law degree "cum laude" in 1972 from Wayne State University. Howard also received a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University in 1973 and has specialized in the practice of personal and business tax law, estate and financial planning, real estate and sports and entertainment law. Howard's representative clients include many successful business leaders and corporations, high net worth individuals, music industry leaders, and professional athletes. Since 1980, he has been a practice consultant for the "Midwest Transaction Guide," a fourteen volume set of books published by Matthew Bender & Company Inc., a member of the LexisNexis Group. Howard has authored many articles and also is a frequent lecturer, having participated in many Institute of Continuing Legal Education seminars. He is also a frequent guest lecturer at the Law Schools of Wayne State University, Michigan State University and the University of Detroit Mercy on the topic of "Conducting Effective Negotiations." For many years, he was a member of the Board of Directors of TLC Vision Corporation, a leading laser vision correction company, which was publicly-traded on NASDAQ. He is a Registered Agent with the National Hockey League Players' Association and has represented professional athletes since 1986. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the University of Michigan Band Alumni Association, The Elbel Club. The Friends of the Michigan Marching Band, the Detroit Friends of Bar-Ilan University, a member of the Board of Governors of the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation, and a member of the Michigan State University College of Music National Leadership Council. He is also Past-President of both the University of Michigan Band Alumni Association and the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation. Howard was also featured in the April 9, 2012 Edition of the "Michigan Lawyers Weekly" in the "On the Stand" column.
