HOWARD W. NEISWENDER is a Partner with Balch & Bingham LLP's Corporate, Tax and Finance section and a member of the Wealth Management practice area. Mr. Neiswender's practice includes estate, tax and business planning for individuals and business owners, representing fiduciaries and beneficiaries in estate and trust administration and disputes, handling audits before the Internal Revenue Service, advising clients regarding investment and insurance products and other financial instruments, advising charities on numerous governance and planned giving issues, and assisting U.S. and Non-U.S. citizens in the areas of international estate and tax planning.
Mr. Neiswender primarily deals with the design and implementation of advanced tax and business planning strategies. He has extensive experience in solving the problems of the closely held business owner, particularly in creating innovative solutions for those owners who are looking for an exit plan. His goal is to integrate the personal and business planning of his clients in order to protect their wealth, accomplish their objectives and reduce the complexity in their lives.
Representative Experience
· Advised charities on various aspects of planned giving.
· Advised several clients on ways to reduce their tax liability prior to selling their businesses.
· Assisted an entrepreneur with the creation of a new business in a business structure designed to minimize liability risk and maximize tax savings.
· Created over $1MM of estate tax savings through the use of innovative after-death tax planning strategies.
· Enabled a father to transfer over $6MM of wealth to his children without any gift or estate tax.
· Helped with the establishment of a family office to help simplify the life of a business owner.
· Implemented a business succession plan for a business with some children working in the business and others not.
· Implemented international planning using foreign trusts.
· Structured a family foundation for a couple to use to mentor their children in philanthropy.
· Worked with professionals and executives to coordinate their employee benefits with the other aspects of their estate and tax planning.
