Iain C. Scott is a partner in the Business Law Group in the firm's Montréal office.
Mr. Scott practises corporate and securities law, concentrating on mergers and acquisitions, financings, reorganizations, fund formation and joint ventures. He has extensive experience in cross-border and multi-national transactions for Canadian, US and European clients, including strategic buyers and financial sponsors. He also has significant experience in venture capital financings and other transactions involving technology-based businesses.
Mr. Scott's recent transactional experience includes leading the hostile take-over bid by Cosmos Capital for Cossette Inc., acting for the controlling shareholders of CGI Group in the monetization of their shares, acting for Limited Brands in its $800-million take-over bid for La Senza, and representing L-3 Communications in its acquisition of the Marine Controls division of CAE.
In the private equity area, he has acted for a range of financial sponsors in a number of significant transactions, including large funds such as Blackstone and Cerberus. On the sell side, he has been involved in transactions involving private equity buyers such as KKR and Bain Capital. Mr Scott is also "repeatedly recommended" as a leading lawyer in the area of Private Equity by the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, 2011 edition, for the Québec Region.
Mr. Scott acts as a regional coordinator of the firm's U.S. markets practice.
Mr. Scott received his LLB from the University of Toronto in 1994 and a BA in economics from McGill University in 1991. He is a member of the Ontario and Québec bars and is fluent in English and French.
