As Of Counsel in the firm's Bankruptcy, Restructuring & Commercial Law Section, Ian brings over a decade of experience representing indenture trustees, bond insurers, mutual fund and insurance companies, and other sophisticated creditors in bankruptcy and distress environments across a broad range of industries, including transportation, energy, manufacturing, and health care.
In recent representative matters, he has advised indenture trustees, bondholders, and noteholders in the following cases: In re Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., In re Calpine Corp., In re Sumner Regional Health Systems, In re Pascack Valley Hospital Association, In re Erickson Retirement Communities, LLC, In re Delta Air Lines, Inc., In re Northwest Airlines, Inc., and In re United Air Lines, Inc.
Ian has significant experience representing creditors and financially distressed parties in a variety of workout environments, including bankruptcy proceedings, exchange offers, consent solicitations, state law dissolutions, secured party foreclosures, and insurance company rehabilitation proceedings. He also has broad litigation experience involving bankruptcy and non-bankruptcy matters in state and federal courts, including appellate matters.
Ian is licensed to practice in Massachusetts and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Bankruptcy Section of the Boston Bar Association, and the American Bankruptcy Institute.
After receiving a B.A. in History, magna cum laude, from Union College (1993), Ian earned his law degree from Cornell Law School (1996). At Cornell, Ian was an associate editor of the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy. He has been recognized as a Massachusetts Super Lawyers "Rising Star" seven times (2005 through 2011).
