Ian C. McLeod is Counsel to Butzel Long, based in the firm's Lansing office. He has been practicing for more than 45 years in all aspects of intellectual property, including patent and trademark preparation and prosecution in various technological areas, copyright preparation, licensing and opinions. He has issued many U.S. and foreign patents and trademark registrations.
Mr. McLeod has represented various clients including universities, spin-off companies, start-ups, large corporations and individual inventors. He has prepared and prosecuted patents in various technological fields including Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Medical Devices, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Design, Electrical Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, Assays and others.
Mr. McLeod is admitted to practice in Michigan and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), the State Bar of Michigan (Council Member, Patent Section, 1975-1983; Secretary, 1980-1981; Vice-Chairman, 1981-1982; Chairman, 1982-1983), the American Bar Association, the Michigan Patent Law Association and the American Chemical Society.
Prior to joining Butzel Long, Mr. McLeod was in private practice in a firm he founded in 1976 in Lansing, Michigan, the Ian C. McLeod, P.C. He received his B.S. in Chemistry (1956) and Chemical Engineering (1958) from the University of Michigan and his L.L.B. from the University of Michigan School of Law in 1961.
