J.Y. concentrates his practice in products liability, toxic tort and other general litigation. He plays a leading role in managing major joint defense groups comprising a variety of Fortune 500 companies in products liability and premises liability cases alleging personal injury from exposure to solvents, benzene and asbestos.
J.Y.'s extensive experience acting as national and regional counsel in toxic tort matters involves directing the day-to-day management of litigation, working closely with defense experts, developing and implementing overall defense strategies, coordinating discovery efforts and preparing cases for trial. He has handled matters pending in Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, Delaware, Arkansas, Texas, Michigan and Mississippi. J.Y. has defended products liability claims involving a wide range of industrial tools, construction equipment and consumer products. His practice has included representing companies in cases involving commercial disputes, auto accidents and pharmaceuticals.
In 2011, J.Y. was recognized among a small number of lawyers nationwide as a "Client Service All-Star" by BTI Consulting in its annual survey of world-leading general counsel and their direct reports at Fortune 1000 companies.
Before joining the firm, J.Y. spent five years on active duty in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps trying numerous cases to verdict as a prosecutor and criminal defense counsel, including three murder cases. While in the military, he deployed to Bosnia and Saudi Arabia and received the Award for Excellence in Advocacy at the U.S. Army JAG Corps Criminal Law Advocacy Course.
