While putting himself through college, J.Y. gained valuable experience working with manufacturing and transportation companies before his legal career even began. His work credentials include many hours at:
•A commercial and industrial printing factory;
•A shipyard that manufactured barges; and
•A marine construction and transportation company.
These days he is a trusted advisor for manufacturing companies and corporate executives in matters of product liability, toxic tort and other general litigation. As part of his work, J.Y. leads the defense for a host of Fortune 500 companies in product liability and premises liability cases alleging personal injury from exposure to a broad range of substances, including solvents, benzene and asbestos.
J.Y.'s extensive experience acting as national and regional counsel in toxic tort claims involves directing the management of litigation, working closely to develop and present defense experts, coordinating discovery efforts and preparing cases for trial. He has actively litigated cases nationwide, including Alabama, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Washington. J.Y. has defended product liability claims involving a wide range of industrial tools, construction equipment and consumer products. He has also represented individuals and companies in commercial disputes, automobile accidents and pharmaceuticals.
Before joining the firm, J.Y. spent five years on active duty in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps trying numerous cases to verdict as a prosecutor and criminal defense counsel, including three murder cases, while stationed in Georgia, Texas, Saudi Arabia and Bosnia.

•Defended against alleged workplace injuries/diseases and alleged injuries/diseases from manufactured products for oil-refining companies, chemical manufacturers, an aluminum sheet manufacturer, a building products manufacturer, a tool and equipment manufacturer, a shoe manufacturer and paints and coatings manufacturers.
•Implemented national strategy to build comprehensive good company story and present defense in product litigation in numerous jurisdictions.
•Defended more than 50 benzene/solvent cases around the country alleging various malignancies.
•Performed independent investigation of products allegedly at issue in fires that caused major damages to commercial businesses. Claims defeated before lawsuits filed.
•Lead counsel in personal injury action alleging significant pulmonary injuries caused by exposure to cleaning chemicals.
•Obtained significant settlement as lead plaintiff's counsel in complex dispute involving contract, property and negligence claims concerning highly technical geotechnical, materials science and structural engineering concepts.
•Prepared and defended corporate representatives in depositions involving company's products at issue in national litigation.
•Worked closely with expert toxicologist to develop testimony to combat attacks on company's paint and coatings products with favorable results.
•Prepared high-profile asbestos case for trial and developed client's corporate representative, expert industrial hygienist and expert materials science engineer for deposition and trial.
•Prepared significant solvent exposure cancer case for trial, including development of key experts and fact witnesses.
•Led large joint defense group of oil and chemical companies in significant solvent/benzene exposure case.
