As a litigator, Jack Massey is committed to resolving disputes reasonably and efficiently so his clients can attend to their businesses, rather than litigation. His practice is complex civil litigation and investigations. Jack's clients span the entire energy industry-upstream, downstream, trading and services firms-as well as entities in the chemical, logistics and financial services industries. Jack has litigated cases throughout the United States, most recently serving on a trial team in the multidistrict litigation arising from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill in 2010.
Jack also conducts corporate and government investigations relating to disasters, frauds and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). He represents clients facing investigations by the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Department of the Interior and Congress. He played a leading role in Transocean's investigation into the Macondo incident and briefed legislators, regulators and the media on the investigation findings.
Sutherland represents international drilling contractor in DOJ environmental proceedings.
