Jack is the Chair of the Business section in the firm and practices in the Business, Real Estate, Insurance and Health Law groups. He is experienced in the areas of securities and insurance regulation, corporate and partnership taxation, mergers and acquisitions and real estate development. A substantial part of his practice involves corporate and tax planning for transactions involving business, insurance, real estate and health care entities and the negotiation and implementation of such transactions.
Jack is recognized by Best Lawyers in America in Corporate Law, in Chambers USA Leading Lawyers, including being named by Chambers USA as a "Leader in their Field" since 2009 and in Alabama Super Lawyers in Business/Corporate. In addition, he was named one of LawDragon's 500 Dealmakers in American and a member of the LawDragon 3000 top U.S. lawyers. In addition, Best Lawyers has named Jack the "Birmingham Best Lawyers Securities Lawyer of the Year" for 2011. Jack's accolades also include being elected to the governing body of the Council of the Alabama Law Institute.
Jack was an Adjunct Faculty Member of The University of Alabama School of Law from 1979-1999. He taught courses in securities law and regulations, corporate finance and business planning. Jack is a member of the American Bar Association, the Alabama State Bar, the Birmingham Bar Association and the National Health Lawyers Association. He is an active member of the American Bar Association Committee on Partnerships and Unincorporated Business Organizations. He was the Chairman of the Alabama Law Institute's Committee on the Revised Uniform Limited Partnership Act and is an active member of the Alabama Law Institute's Committee on the Uniform Limited Liability Company Act.
Jack received his B.A. in 1970 from the University of the South and his J.D. in 1973 from The University of Alabama School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. From 1971-73, he was a member of the Board of Editors of the Alabama Law Review. Jack was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1973.
Jack in the community
Jack belongs to the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham and the Birmingham Venture Club. Jack serves on the Board of Directors of the Norwood Resource Center, an organization dedicated to address social and physical needs of the Norwood Community in Birmingham, which is a historically prominent neighborhood that has suffered deterioration, decline and economic depression.
