Jai Singh helps companies throughout California solve their business problems. Mr. Singh protects and defends clients' business practices in the areas of business, commercial and consumer protection law. He also has significant experience representing clients in class actions in a wide range of industries. He has successfully defended and prosecuted class action claims brought under California Business & Professions Code Sections 17200 and 17500, the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, the Sherman Act and the Cartwright Act. Mr. Singh has represented companies by obtaining early dismissal of cases, defeating class certification, or winning at trial. He also has substantial experience coordinating with counsel in multi-district litigation (MDL). Mr. Singh serves as legal advisor for the Better Business Bureau of San Diego and Imperial Counties and its board of directors. Mr. Singh is also a member of the firm's Diversity Committee and Pro Bono Committee. Recent Work / Representative Matters Turner v. In re the Matter of the Estate of John Steinbeck IV - Successfully enforced compliance with contract terms on behalf of son and granddaughter of renowned Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winning author. Tenenbaum v. Citigroup, Inc., et al. - Negotiated nuisance value settlement in consumer class action for alleged unfair telephone solicitation practices brought under Business & Professions Code Sections 17200 and 17500. Coordinated Escrow and Title Insurance Litigation - Represented national escrow and title insurer in numerous coordinated lawsuits filed by alleged victims of a real estate investment scam operated by their financial advisor. The cases settled for confidential amounts. Underwood v. San Diego Flight Training International, Inc. - Negotiated nuisance value settlement in class action brought by former students alleging violations by flight school under Business & Professions Code Section 17200, the Consumer Legal Remedies Act and the California Education Code. Citizen Action Council v. Equity Residential Properties Management Corporation - Obtained dismissal with prejudice based on motion for judgment on the pleadings of Business & Professions Code Section 17200 and Consumer Legal Remedies Act class action challenging application screening fee. Campuzano v. NWP Services Corp. - Obtained dismissal with prejudice of Consumer Legal Remedies Act class action based on demurrer to complaint in lawsuit that challenged defendant's billing practices and representations to consumers. Shery v. Equity Residential Management, LLC - Obtained dismissal with prejudice as part of negotiated nuisance value settlement in class action challenging cost of application screening fee, late rent fee, and key replacement fee. Allen v. National Water & Power - Negotiated dismissal with prejudice of Consumer Legal Remedies Act class action challenging marketing representations based on factual and legal response to CLRA demand letter. Decker v. Equity Residential, et al. - Negotiated nuisance value settlement based on favorable rulings on defense motions in class action brought by tenants throughout California under Business & Professions Code Sections 17200 and 17500 for alleged unfair business practices arising from representations and disclosures made regarding utilities billing practices at residential properties. Consumer Rights Center, LLC v. Premier Lease and Loan Services Insurance Agency, Inc. - Obtained dismissal of class action challenging cost of insurance charges and documentation fee under Business & Professions Code Section 17200 and Consumer Legal Remedies Act. Rodden v. Great American Insurance Company, et al. - Obtained summary judgment in coordinated joinder action brought by consumer against 400 insurance companies challenging refund practices on unearned premiums under Business & Professions Code Section 17200, Consumer Legal Remedies Act, and California Insurance Code section 481.5.
