James A. Prather is a partner (director) in the firm of Galloway, Johnson, Tompkins, Burr and Smith. James earned his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana. After receiving his Juris Doctorate degree in 1990, James began his career in New Orleans practicing property and casualty defense litigation. His practice areas grew to include insurance coverage litigation, construction defect litigation, maritime defense litigation and defense of the transportation industry. James is admitted to practice before all Louisiana trial and appellate courts, as well as the United States District Court for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit.

James is a member of the AAMGA Governmental Affairs Committee, the Louisiana Surplus Lines Advisory Council, the Maritime Law Association of the United States, the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, the Louisiana Bar Association and past member of the Defense Research Institute. James has devoted his practice to the representation of business and insurance interests in Louisiana. He has been honored by his colleagues in the Bar and members of the Bench with an ("AV") rating from Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest rating available to practicing attorneys.
