Jim Brown concentrates his practice on labor relations law, employment discrimination law, defense of wage and hour matters and mediation. He regularly represents employers before the National Labor Relations Board, the State of Florida Public Employees Relations Commission and the United States Department of Labor. Jim is a certified mediator who has mediated over 600 labor and employment cases. He represents companies and employers in a variety of industries including health care, transportation, government contracting, and the public sector such as cities, towns and school boards.
Jim is a frequent speaker on labor and employment topics before trade and professional groups. He was chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section of The Florida Bar in 1984-85. He is a former President of the Kiwanis Club of East Orlando.
During law school he was on the Holderness Moot Court.
Recent Experience*
· Defended a municipality before the State of Florida Public Employees Relations Commission against unfair labor practice charges that employees were terminated for union activity. Potential backpay exposure was in excess of $500,000.
· Defended government contractors before the National Labor Relations Board against unfair labor practice charges that alleged termination and refusal to hire because of union activity.
· Mediated several Fair Labor Standards Action collective action lawsuits in Florida and other states.
