James Gannon is an associate in our Technology Group in Toronto. His practice focuses on commercial technology matters as well as intellectual property and Internet law issues. Mr. Gannon also regularly advises clients on complex privacy matters, particularly in relation to online and e-commerce issues. He represents a variety of clients in these fields, including major financial institutions, media industry organizations and technology manufacturers.
Mr . Gannon has recently represented:
· A public sector regulatory agency in connection with the creation of a large-scale online public procurement system;
· A leading Canadian real estate management company in negotiations for a software development, license and support agreement; and
· A multi-national media and entertainment company in connection with a complex e-commerce and Internet law compliance project
Mr. Gannon is regarded as a leading authority on technology and intellectual property law issues. He frequently guest lectures at Canadian universities in these fields and is often cited as an expert by the media. In March of 2012, he testified as an expert witness in the House of Commons in relation to Bill C-11, the Copyright Modernization Act. Mr. Gannon is ranked in Chambers Global 2012 as an "Associate to Watch" in Canada in intellectual property law.
Mr. Gannon received his B.A.Sc. (Hons.) in System Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 2005, graduating with distinction. He received his JD from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2008.
Mr Gannon is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Toronto Computer Lawyers' Group. He was called to the Ontario bar in 2009.
