James Archer is counsel in our Financial Services Group in Toronto. His practice focuses on matters related to retail banking and lending and related consumer protection issues. He advises numerous banks and other financial institutions on all aspects of their relationship with consumers - from the drafting of agreements for deposit accounts and TFSAs and advising on compliance with anti-money laundering legislation and disclosure requirements, to the preparation of agreements and disclosure documents for mortgages, motor vehicle and other personal property financing, credit cards, lines of credit and term loans.
With the assistance of our offices in Québec, Alberta and British Columbia, Mr. Archer is also able to coordinate advice on compliance with applicable legislation in those provinces in the field of consumer finance. He is also able to assist with documentation and compliance with disclosure requirements in all other jurisdictions in Canada because of his extensive knowledge of consumer legislation in those other jurisdictions.
Mr. Archer's other major areas of practice are in the fields of bank financings and all aspects of secured lending.
Mr. Archer has lectured and written on the topics of secured transactions and consumer finance. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1978 after receiving his LL.B. from University of Ottawa in 1976.
