Jim is a Member in the Boston office, practicing in the Employment, Labor & Benefits Section.
Jim represents and counsels employers on a wide-range of federal and state employment issues, including wage-and-hour, employee classification, discrimination and harassment, leaves of absence, wrongful termination and the enforcement of noncompetition and nondisclosure agreements.
Jim's work on behalf of employers often extends to litigation where he has represented clients in numerous actions before federal and state courts in cases involving claims for wage and hour violations, discrimination and harassment, breach of contract, defamation, non-competition defense and enforcement, and shareholder disputes. A significant portion of Jim's litigation practice involves defending employers against wage and hour class actions brought under the Fair Labor Standards Act and state wage and hour laws.
In addition, Jim represents both employers and executives in the negotiation and drafting of complex executive employment agreements. Jim also has significant experience advising clients on the terms and use of offer letters, non-competition and non-disclosure agreements, employee handbooks, and personnel policies.
Before joining Mintz Levin, Jim served for six years in the United States Army Reserve as a Civilian Affairs Specialist.
Jim has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyers "Rising Star" every year since 2005. He received his B.A. from the State University of New York at Geneseo (1999) and his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law (2002) where he graduated with honors, and was elected to the Order of the Coif.
