Jim Patti represents clients involved with transactions in the emerging markets, including Brazil, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru and Russia, and has been particularly active in transactions in Turkey. His work emphasizes fund-raising in all its forms, including debt and equity, and he is often involved in complex, cutting-edge transactions for which broad knowledge of the emerging markets is very beneficial. Matters include structured finance, eurobonds, project/infrastructure finance and general lending (secured and unsecured), as well as equity raises, debt restructurings and corporate transactions. Jim's experience includes having established the first three MTN programs in Turkey and structuring the transaction (an Argentine airport financing) named in 2013 by Latin Finance as the Structured Finance Deal of the Quarter Century in Latin America.
Jim is proficient in Spanish, and in Chambers Latin America 2009 Jim earns plaudits for 'highly detailed approach and technical expertise.' According to Chambers Latin America 2010, he is valued for his knowledge of specialist products, particularly future cash flows and diversified payment rights. Most recently in Chambers Global 2013, Jim is championed by clients for being extremely knowledgeable, always available and very user-friendly. In addition to his presence in the US, Jim spends time working from (and coordinating with) the firm's London office. His practice there facilitates his ability to assist emerging market clients in Central and Eastern Europe, Turkey and Africa.
Jim joined Mayer Brown in 1994. Prior to entering law school he worked as a financial analyst with Salomon Brothers Inc in New York City. Jim is a frequent speaker at seminars for emerging markets structured financings and similar matters.
