Jim Burdett is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Barnes & Thornburg and a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Department. His practice focuses on complex patent infringement litigation, as well as finding ways to maximize and leverage his clients' intellectual assets. Mr. Burdett provides strategic counsel to clients of all sizes in patent prosecution, licensing, and litigation. He was formerly Director of Worldwide Patent Development for Compaq Computer Corporation, where he built a world-class patent portfolio to protect the company's R&D investment and reflect its leadership in the personal computer industry. Mr. Burdett has a thorough understanding of microprocessor-based systems; digital and optical communication devices and protocols; data compression, decompression, and encryption algorithms; and magnetic and optical storage devices, and storage area networks. Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Mr. Burdett was a partner at Venable® LLP in Washington, D.C. Mr. Burdett is a 1973 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, where he received his B.S. He earned his M.S. from George Washington University in 1981, and his J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 1984. Mr. Burdett is a founding member of the eDiscovery and Electronic Evidence Committee of the American Bar Association, and a past master at the Giles Rich Sutherland American Inn of Court. Mr. Burdett is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia; the states of New Jersey and Texas; and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. |
