James S. Grodin is a retired partner with Foley & Lardner LLP. In addition to his former role of deputy chair of the firm's Litigation Department, for which he had responsibility for the Orlando Litigation Practice, he was also a member of the Consumer Financial Services and Bankruptcy & Business Reorganizations Practices. He maintained a general commercial litigation practice, including matters relating to banking, insurance/bad faith, commercial contracts, and intellectual property. His client counsel on banking law included problem loan workouts, lender liability defense and consumer/bank relationships.
Mr. Grodin was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was first admitted to the bar in that state in 1972. He received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin (J.D., 1972). His undergraduate education was at the University of Wisconsin, with a year at the University of Freiburg (Freiburg, Germany). He is the co-author of the chapter entitled "The Impact of Bankruptcy" in Florida Construction Law and Practice (Fla. Bar 1991).
He belongs to The Florida Bar and Orange County Bar, as well as maintaining his membership in the Wisconsin Bar.
Mr. Grodin has been Peer Review Rated as AV® Preeminent™, the highest performance rating in Martindale-Hubbell's peer review rating system and was recognized as one of Florida's Legal Elite by Florida Trend™ magazine in 2005. Mr. Grodin was selected for inclusion in the 2007, 2009, and 2011 Florida Super Lawyers® lists. He was also selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2008-2012 editions of The Best Lawyers in America® in the fields of bet-the-company litigation and commercial litigation.
