Biography

James W. Dawson, Jr. counsels businesses, organizations and individuals on a variety of federal, state and local tax matters, including a broad range of complex business transactions, employment issues, representation before administrative agencies and the Internal Revenue Service, investigative proceedings, litigation and legislation. He also counsels clients on a variety of estate planning and administration issues.

Before joining Miles & Stockbridge P.C. as counsel, he was an associate with Stein, Sperling, Bennett, De Jong, Driscoll & Greenfeig, P.C. in Rockville, Maryland. He also was appointed and served as assistant director, legal, for the Comptroller of Maryland. In this role, he oversaw the operational aspects of the Revenue Administrative Division in its interpretation and application of the state's income, estate, sales and use, and admissions and amusement tax laws, rules and regulations.

Jim graduated from The University of Baltimore School of Law. He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Frostburg State University. He is a frequent presenter on state and local tax matters and recently chaired the Maryland State Bar Association's tax section.
