Jane Langford is a partner in our Litigation Group in Toronto. Her practice focuses on business disputes, professional negligence and insurance. Ms. Langford's diverse commercial practice involves acting for corporate clients in many areas of the law, including public law, product liability, contracts, defamation, real property and employment, and likewise, in many areas of business, including retail, education, banking, property management, manufacturing and gaming. She advises corporations, solo entrepreneurs, partnerships and joint ventures. Ms. Langford also advises clients on insurance coverage disputes and has acted for numerous corporate policy holders in claims against most major insurers in Canada under commercial general liability, errors & omissions and property insurance policies. Ms. Langford regularly acts as counsel in professional liability cases, including advising physicians in professional negligence claims and prosecuting teachers before the Discipline Committee of the Ontario College of Teachers. In addition to appearing as counsel before all levels of court in Ontario, Ms. Langford has appeared before various administrative boards and tribunals, including the Ontario College of Teachers, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Ontario Health Services Appeal and Review Board, the Ontario Human Rights Commission and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Tribunal. She has also acted in various types of ADR. Jane Langford also plays a role inside the firm which includes developing the firm's litigation group, including managing the litigation law clerks, student recruitment and continuing legal education. In 2005, she was honoured by receiving the firm's Associate Mentor Prize. Ms. Langford was extensively involved in establishing WIN, the firm's initiative to support women in the advancement of their professional careers, and is a member of WIN's Executive and Business Development Committees. Ms. Langford was awarded the Best Advocate, Advocates' Society Arnup Cup Competition in 1995. Other awards include the William Neil Hanna Scholarship for character and leadership, Victoria College, University of Toronto (1991) and the High Distinction Certificate, University of Toronto (1992). Ms. Langford obtained her BA (International Relations and Political Science) from the University of Toronto in 1992 and her LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1995. She was called to the Ontario bar in 1997. |
