Jasper A. Cacananta is an associate in Cadwalader's Derivatives & Structured Products group. His practice is focused on complex financial transactions, derivatives, structured products, and securitization. He represents and advises major banks, investment firms, funds, and other global financial institutions in connection with a wide variety of structured finance transactional matters including the development, analysis, structuring, negotiation, and documentation of swaps, derivatives, and other financial products. While at the Firm, Jasper has been seconded to the legal and compliance division of a top multinational investment bank. In addition, he is experienced in mergers & acquisitions, media/technology transactions, intellectual property licensing and diligence, and general corporate law.
Prior to joining Cadwalader, Jasper was a summer honors legal intern at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Division of Enforcement in New York. Before practicing law, he worked for various private, public, and nonprofit organizations including the Judicial Council of California as a judicial administration fellow, an economic development public policy institute as a banking fellow, a leading corporate governance advisory firm in San Francisco as a lead research analyst, and a Fortune 500 entertainment and media company in Los Angeles as a project consultant.
Jasper earned a B.S. (Haas School of Business) and a B.A from the University of California, Berkeley and his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was executive editor of the Journal of Constitutional Law and a recipient of the Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award. During law school, he was elected student council president and class officer, served as a member of the admissions committee, and volunteered with the Urban Ventures Project. Jasper also received a Certificate in Business and Public Policy from the Wharton School.
He is a member of the Filipino American Lawyers Association of New York, the Asian American Bar Association of New York, the New York State Bar Association, and serves as a mentor with the Practicing Attorneys for Law Students Program, Inc. Jasper is admitted to practice in the State of New York.
