| Biography | Jeff Calk is a partner at Waller Lansden and practices in the areas of commercial real estate, healthcare and general corporate law. Mr. Calk regularly represents institutional users of real estate in acquiring, selling, developing, and/or leasing real property. Mr. Calk has extensive experience with real estate transactions within the healthcare industry, including acute care and behavioral hospitals, senior housing facilities, outpatient diagnostic facilities and medical office buildings. In June 2010, Mr. Calk moderated a panel discussion on fraud and abuse Issues in real estate transactions at the American Health Lawyers Association's In-House Counsel Program in Seattle. The presentation focused on Stark and Anti-Kickback compliance issues arising in real estate transactions between hospitals and their referral sources. In August and November 2010, Mr. Calk was a co-presenter on the topic "Consequences of Stark Violations After Healthcare Reform: Another Reason Why Hospitals Should Not Own MOBs," at the Interface MOB Conferences in Dallas and Atlanta. In November 2009, Mr. Calk was interviewed in Healthcare Real Estate Insights magazine on the increase in Stark and Anti-Kickback enforcement related to real estate transactions. His recent experience includes advising healthcare companies in transactions to monetize real estate assets and in the acquisition and development of medical office buildings. Additionally, Mr. Calk serves as national leasing counsel for a publicly traded Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). He represents REITs in acquisitions, development projects, financing transactions and leasing transactions involving a wide range of healthcare facilities including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, Alzheimer's centers and other senior housing facilities. Mr. Calk leads Waller Lansden's participation in the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry (NIC) and the American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA).
