Jeffrey A. Hopper is a partner in the Corporate Department in Barnes & Thornburg LLP's Indianapolis, Indiana office and a member of the firm's Management Committee.
Mr. Hopper concentrates his practice in corporate law, counseling clients in mergers and acquisitions, private debt and equity finance, succession planning, ESOPs, healthcare law, private securities law, real estate and other general business matters. He is a member and founder of the firm's Business and Technology Group, BTech, and a member of the Entrepreneurial Services Group.
Mr. Hopper has significant expertise in structuring and advising with respect to executive compensation and equity and cash based awards, including stock options, restricted stock, phantom awards, stock appreciation rights, performance awards, deferred compensation and cash awards. He is an expert in Sections 162(m), 280G and 409A of the Internal Revenue Code. His clients include both private and public companies and he works regularly with public company compensation committees.
Mr. Hopper is a board member of the non-profit organization Junior Achievement of Central Indiana, Inc. He also served as the volunteer President for the Indianapolis Tennis Championships, a men's professional tennis tournament led by a non-profit organization whose proceeds benefit a number of charities, including Riley Hospital for Children and the National Junior Tennis League.
Mr. Hopper graduated from DePaul University College of Law in 1997. While attending DePaul's evening law program he held full-time employment with the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration of the United States Department of Labor. While at DePaul, he was a writer on the DePaul Law Review and earned the Dean's Scholarship for academic excellence. Mr. Hopper graduated Order of the Coif and with honors.
Prior to attending DePaul, Mr. Hopper was a commercial loan officer with First Oak Brook Bancshares, a middle-market Chicago bank. His duties and responsibilities included servicing lending and cash management customers of the bank.
In 1991, Mr. Hopper received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University-Bloomington where he earned his degree in business economics and public policy from the Kelley School of Business. He was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma Honorary Society and the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.
Mr. Hopper was born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana and he is married with three children.
