Mr. Petit is a partner in the firm's Real Estate Practice Group. He joined McCarter & English in 1996 and became a partner in 2004. His practice focuses on all aspects of real estate law with a concentration on commercial real estate finance, real estate development investments, and acquisitions and dispositions of retail centers, office parks, residential developments and hotels.
Mr. Petit has represented investment banks, commercial banks and insurance companies on a variety of U.S. loan transactions, including permanent, interim and construction loan financing, co-lending arrangements, mezzanine finance, and mortgage loan workouts. Mr. Petit's representation has been both from a borrower and lender perspective.
Mr. Petit provides real estate counsel on various aspects of large real property portfolios held by commercial investors. He has represented a purchaser in connection with a multi-billion dollar acquisition of more than 200 properties, a lender with respect to a $105 million loan secured by 14 hotels, and a seller in connection with the sale of two office buildings with an aggregate sales price of $268 million.
Mr. Petit is a recurring guest lecturer for the "Legal Issues in Hospitality" course at New York University School of Continuing & Professional Studies where he lectures on negotiating acquisitions and sales of hotels, including common legal pitfalls of hotel investors.
Mr. Petit is recognized as a New Jersey Super Lawyer for 2008-2012 editions.
