An effective litigator, Jeff concentrates his practice in the areas of securities litigation, internal investigations and white collar crime. He began his career as a certified public accountant for PricewaterhouseCoopers and then served as an FBI special agent in St. Louis for 10 years and as a federal prosecutor for another decade when he led securities and computer fraud prosecutions. In 2006, he was named Executive U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, an office with 60 criminal and civil attorneys.
Jeff's noteworthy accomplishments include:
•As federal prosecutor, he led the investigations and prosecutions of many notorious fraud cases, including cases against the executives of a large national homebuilder, a federal savings and loan, a leading provider of support systems and services for military operations, and a leading broadband communications company.
•Secured favorable results for clients in a wide range of criminal, civil and regulatory matters, such as:
•Defense of Big Four accounting firm investigated by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in relation to audits of a failed financial institution.
•Defense of executive against allegations by the DOJ of $700 million healthcare fraud.
•Defense of executive against allegations by the DOJ and the SEC in securities fraud matter related to expert network and hedge fund trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
•Conducted compliance reviews and internal investigations for large medical device manufacturers, shipbuilders and insurance companies.
•Achieved favorable outcomes in the defense of many publicly traded companies against whistleblower allegations investigated by the DOJ and the SEC.
•As a member of the Department of Justice Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property team and in private practice, assisted many entities in responding to unauthorized network intrusions. This has involved coordinating with law enforcement or forensic examiners to ensure relevant records are maintained in an admissible format without disrupting operations.
A frequent lecturer, Jeff has addressed the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va., the Center for the Application of Information Technology at Washington University, Saint Louis University School of Law, the National District Attorneys' Association in Columbia, S.C., the Missouri Bar and the Missouri Society of CPAs.

•In U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, represented global supply manager of multinational computer technology company who provided insider information to hedge fund traders through an expert networking firm. The client received probation in the criminal case. No incremental punishment was handed down by the SEC in the related civil matter.
•Won dismissal of class action lawsuit against a former general counsel of a real estate investment company. Case pending in U.S. District Court, Central District of California.
•Achieved favorable results in U.S. District Court, Western District of Texas, for executive at medical device manufacturing company against allegations of a $700 million fraud scheme. Also defended client in related criminal case and class action litigation.
