Biography

CONCENTRATION

Jeff is a shareholder of the Davis Brown Law Firm. He joined the firm's Litigation Division in May 2007 and practices in the areas of insurance defense, personal injury, commercial litigation, real estate,labor and employment law, and construction law.

SUMMARY

Prior to enrolling in law school, Jeff pursued a career in journalism and worked as a staff writer for several newspapers, including The Des Moines Register. In his law practice, he has litigated, individually and with colleagues, a wide variety of cases in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. Such cases include personal injury actions; insurance coverage disputes; employment discrimination and civil rights cases, including ADA, FMLA, wage and hour, unemployment benefits, and wrongful termination actions; construction and real estate disputes; and commercial law and debt collection matters. In addition, Jeff has assisted employers in the development and implementation of employment policies and has advised insurers on complex insurance coverage issues.

PUBLICATIONS, SEMINARS AND SPEECHES

Jeff has been a presenter at a number of labor and employment law seminars on topics such as privacy in the workplace; wage and hour law, including "white-collar" exemptions to federal overtime regulations; national origin discrimination, military leave, and other post 9/11 employment issues; and employee discipline and documentation. He is a past editor and author of the Iowa Employment Law Letter, and has also been a contributor to the Iowa Defense Counsel Association Newsletter.

ACADEMICS

Jeff earned his law degree from Drake University Law School in 2000. He received his bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communications from Iowa State University in 1993.

OF NOTE

Before joining the Davis Brown Law Firm he was an associate, Whitfield & Eddy, P.L.C., Des Moines, Iowa, from 2004-07 and an associate, Pingel & Templer, P.C., West Des Moines, Iowa, 2000-03.

He is admitted to practice before the state courts of Iowa, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He served as articles editor of the Drake Law Review.
