Jeff King is a partner in the firm's Washington, DC office. Mr. King has over thirty years of experience and expertise in complex litigation, focusing on antitrust cases, contracts, intellectual property and healthcare. He has handled a wide range of litigation at both trial and appellate levels, including jury trials, federal and state administrative agencies and arbitration. Mr. King also advises firm clients on healthcare, contract and antitrust issues and has had the privilege of serving as general counsel to a number of trade associations.
Mr. King has pioneered the effort to recover unpaid premiums in a series of cases under the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. To date, Mr. King has assisted his clients in recovering over $250 million in underpaid premiums. Mr. King was also the lead counsel for the American Association of Health Plans, Inc., et al. v. Shalala in which the Firm obtained a TRO and preliminary injunction against the federal government's improper attempt to implement a Medicare demonstration project in Denver, Colorado. Mr. King has assisted his clients in dealing with audit findings and other adverse administrative actions under the Medicare and Federal Employees Health Benefits Programs. Mr. King has also represented many of his clients in claims arising under their health plans ranging from antitrust issues, to provider contracts, to coverage disputes, to regulatory matters.
Mr. King has also represented many non-healthcare clients involved in contract and antitrust matters. These include being successful trial counsel for the Detroit Auto Dealers Association, Inc., et al. (FTC Docket No. 9189), which challenged the hours of operations for Detroit auto dealers under the antitrust laws, and several landmark copyright cases involving public performance of movie videos.
Mr. King has also authored numerous articles on the procedural and substantive aspects of litigation, healthcare law, trade associations and antitrust issues. He is a frequent lecturer on these issues and is an adjunct professor at The George Washington University teaching law ethics and risk management in their Special Events program. Mr. King has also co-authored a book on the legal aspects of trade shows.
Mr. King represents many major healthcare companies throughout the United States, including Aetna-US Healthcare, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York, Health Net, PacifiCare, MAMSI, Humana, The Permanente Medical Group and Johns Hopkins University. He has also represented major trade associations such as the American Health Insurance Plans, the Convention Industry Council, the World Floor Covering Association and the D.C. Hospital Association.
To better assist the firm's government contractor, construction, hospital and hospitality clients, Mr. King has earned certification as an Accredited Professional under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) of the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. As a LEED Accredited Professional, Mr. King has an in-depth understanding of sustainable building practices and has the expertise necessary to assist clients with the LEED certification process, as well as rapidly evolving government regulations.
Mr. King attended the State University of New York (Summa Cum Laude graduate) and Albany Law School of Union University where he was a Cum Laude graduate and Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. Mr. King is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, the Bar of the State of Maryland and the Bar of the U.S. Supreme Court.
