Practice
The majority of Jeremiah's practice is devoted to litigation. He enjoys a diverse practice, representing Fortune 500 companies as well as closely held corporations and individuals. Jeremiah also has experience with many different types of matters, ranging from defending complicated mining subsidence cases and handling business disputes to filing offensive cases to protect his clients' interests. He also has experience representing employers in Federal Black Lung claims and workers' compensation matters, including occupational disease claims.
Highlights
* In 2011, obtained a full summary judgment in favor of a mining company in which the plaintiffs asserted claims for trespass, nuisance, negligence, wantonness, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and breach of the duty to provide subjacent support.
* In 2011, obtained a favorable resolution of a workers' compensation matter in which the plaintiff claimed that he was 100% disabled. Plaintiff's claims regarding the extent of his disability were called into question by surveillance footage of the plaintiff, which was conceded by Plaintiff's vocational expert during his deposition.
* Obtained a complete dismissal of a mine subsidence case stemming from claims based on underground mining. Prior to the dismissal, a Motion for Summary Judgment was filed for the mining company asserting the plaintiff's inability to prove causation and the defenses of the statute of limitations and the rule of repose. Plaintiffs dismissed their causes of action prior to the hearing on the Motion.
* Currently representing an international oil corporation in a case involving allegations of defamation, false imprisonment, and negligent hiring, training, and supervision.
* Currently representing employers throughout the state of Alabama in workers' compensation matters, including occupational disease and co-employee claims.
Honors And Awards
Jeremiah is currently serving as Vice Chair of Social Media for the Defense Research Institute's Trial Tactics Committee.
At Cumberland School of Law, Jeremiah served as Managing Editor of the Cumberland Law Review. He was also selected as a Caruthers Legal Writing Teaching Fellow and was a member of the Henry Upson Sims Moot Court Board. Jeremiah was a section winner of the Robert B. Donworth Moot Court Competition and received Scholar of Merit awards in several classes. He was also a recipient of the Walter Jones Academic Merit Scholarship.
Community Involvement
Jeremiah is a member of the Alabama Bar Association, the Birmingham Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Jeremiah is an active member of Church of the Highlands.
