Jerry E. Hyland is in the Indianapolis, Indiana office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP and now serves of counsel (retired). He is a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Department.
Mr. Hyland serves a wide variety of clients, including manufacturers, financial and insurance institutions, service organizations, and entertainers in the procurement, enforcement, and licensing of intellectual property rights and in other intellectual property matters. He is admitted to practice in the state of Indiana, the Seventh and Federal Circuits, the Indiana Supreme Court, and the federal courts of the Southern District in Indiana, as well as in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Hyland served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and then attended Purdue University where he obtained a B.S. degree in electrical engineering in 1957. He received his J.D. from Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington in 1960.
Mr. Hyland served as an in-house corporate counsel for eight years before entering private practice. He was a partner in the former law firm of Jenkins, Coffey, Hyland, Badger & Conard which merged with Barnes & Thornburg in 1982. He is a member of the American, Indiana State, Indianapolis, and Seventh Circuit Bar Associations and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
