Jessica Mackaness is an associate with the firm's Insurance Litigation practice in the San Diego office. Ms. Mackaness's practice focuses primarily on defending insurance companies against claims for bad faith, fraud, and unfair competition in both individual and class action cases. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Mackaness also represented a number of financial institutions in business and securities litigation matters.
Ms. Mackaness earned her B.A., graduating cum laude, in Business Administration from the University of Florida in 2007. She later earned her J.D., graduating magna cum laude, from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2010, where she was also elected to the Order of the Coif.
While in law school, Ms. Mackaness was an extern for the Honorable William Q. Hayes of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. She was also extensively involved in providing pro bono legal services for the city of San Diego and the University of San Diego's legal clinics, clerking for both the Entrepreneurship Clinic and the Special Education Clinic, for which she received High Honors and graduated with the Pro Bono Service Recognition award for her work helping the city of San Diego's indigent residents. Ms. Mackaness also participated in various moot court competitions and earned a CALI award for excellence in Evidence.
