Jimmy Long's leadership is critical to the success of Nexsen Pruet. He serves as the firm's General Counsel. In that role he provides counsel and advice to firm management and lawyers on a wide range of issues.
Although General Counsel is a big job in-and-of itself, Jimmy never loses focus on making sure that his business and individual clients are fully represented in whatever Court that the client needs assistance. As a commercial litigator, he has tried cases to verdict in Federal Court, State Circuit Court, the Administrative Law Court and Family Court. He has won numerous cases at the Motion stage and recognizes the importance of Mediation to obtain the best result for the client. He has a robust appellate practice having argued appeals before the South Carolina Supreme Court and South Carolina Court of Appeals.
Jimmy's typical matters involve issues such as:
•Defending health care providers in wrongful death and negligence actions
•Certificate of Need litigation
•Representing attorneys before the Office of Disciplinary Court
•Fiduciary duty and negligent misrepresentation litigation involving trustee liability and professional negligence and partnership disputes
•South Carolina Unfair Trade Practices Act
•Complex domestic relations matters
•Drafting pre-nuptial agreements

Outside Nexsen Pruet
My love for courtrooms and a good legal defense is rivaled only by my love of basketball courts and a good press defense.
Although Jimmy is a seasoned litigator, his favorite courts are the ones with basketball hoops. He has coached a girls church league basketball team for years. He is also a long time owner in both a Fantasy Football League and a Fantasy Baseball League.
