Joan E. Boros, Esq. is in Jorden Burt LLP's Washington, D.C. office. Her securities, corporate, and insurance law practice experience includes all aspects of the design, organization, qualification, state and federal registration, and compliance of investment companies and variable insurance products registered under the Federal securities laws, including the Investment Company Act of 1940. She has parallel experience with related entities, such as investment advisers and broker-dealers. She also provides analysis and advice with regard to the applicable Dodd-Frank legislation's changes to the federal securities laws with regard to various registered and and unregistered products, including mutual funds, variable insurance products, contingent deferred annuities, and traditional fixed and fixed index products. Current advice extends to the impact of the Volcker Rule on insurance companies and other entities. She is a frequent contributor to industry publications, and has chaired a Practising Law Institute seminar, "Understanding the Securities Products of Insurance Companies," for 17 years. Joan Boros also co-chaired the ALI-ABA Conference on Life Insurance Company Products for 9 years. She was a co-founder of the National Association for Fixed Annuities (NAFA), serving as a Board member from its inception until 2007. She currently serves as a Board member of the Retirement Income Industry Association (RIIA) and Chair of its Compliance Committee. Joan Boros gained her experience as an Attorney-Advisor in the Office of the Solicitor, U.S. Department of Labor and in the Division of Investment Management, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 1980 to 1983, and as a private attorney specializing in these matters since 1983. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Boros was a business promotion and marketing consultant to foreign businesses and governments.
