Joey Lee Miranda's practice focuses on energy, telecommunications, environmental, toxic tort, and utilities matters, including litigation, transactional and regulatory representation, and counseling. She also has experience in commercial and residential real estate matters and zoning appeals. Ms. Miranda regularly appears before state regulatory agencies, including the Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control, the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, and the Connecticut Siting Council, on utility, telecommunications, and energy-related matters. She also handles administrative appeals of agency decisions to state courts. An important aspect of Ms. Miranda's practice also involves counseling clients on regulatory compliance matters. Much of her work involves private disputes under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act as well as defense of third-party claims and citizen suits. Required revision to a long-term contract approved by the DPUC to which United Illuminating was counterparty. Robinson & Cole negotiated with various stakeholders to reach an amendment acceptable to all parties and then filed a request to reopen the proceeding and amend the contract. Environmental - Defended the purchaser of a nuclear power facility in an action seeking to prevent the transfer of environmental permits. - Represented retail distributor of heating oil, propane, and motor fuels in action claiming personal injury damages as a result of benzene exposure. - Represents gasoline dealer and distributor in multidistrict litigation arising from alleged contamination of drinking water supplies with Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE). - Defended lessee of bulk fuel oil terminal in dispute over the condition of the tanks and ancillary equipment following termination of the lease. - Represented the United States' largest home heating oil company in a private party action under CERCLA brought in the District Court for the District of New Jersey. - Served as member of Consent Decree Negotiating Committee on behalf of multinational corporation at Superfund site in New Jersey. - Served as member of Executive Committee and Litigation Committee on behalf of multinational corporation at Superfund site in Michigan. - Represented multinational corporation in natural resources damages action brought by the State of New Jersey. - Represented various subsidiaries of multinational company listed on both the New York and London Stock Exchanges in several actions seeking to recover damages from alleged asbestos exposure. - Represents international forest products company in various personal injury matters arising from alleged asbestos exposure. - Represented subsidiary of London Stock Exchange-listed company engaged in the supply of industrial fans in several suits seeking damages from alleged exposure to asbestos. - Represented specialty gasket manufacturer in several actions seeking damages from alleged asbestos exposure. - Represented textile manufacturer in suit to recover damages from alleged asbestos exposure.
