John A. Simon is a litigation partner in the Construction, Real Estate and Land Use practice. He has experience as a trial lawyer, having tried cases before juries in both state and federal courts. He also has substantial appellate experience, including arguments in the Illinois and the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as federal and state courts of appeal around the country.
Real estate litigation, including eminent domain, construction litigation, landlord tenant and easement disputes is a primary focus of his practice. Environmental litigation, including appellate review of environmental agency decisions, makes up another substantial portion of his practice.
Together with other lawyers from the firm, he acted as national coordinating counsel and trial counsel for a latex glove manufacturer in latex glove product liability litigation involving over 500 cases. The cases were either tried to a defense verdict or settled on favorable terms.
Before entering private practice at the firm, John served for seven years in the Illinois Attorney General's Office in the general litigation division, where he represented various state agencies and officers in the state and federal courts, as well as before administrative commissions.
Drawing on this experience, he has handled a variety of state regulatory matters, administrative review actions and other public law litigation at the firm.
John speaks Spanish and Portuguese.
