| Biography | John Beaty is actively helping companies explore the implications of financial modernization, assisting with strategic initiatives, corporate restructurings, development of new financial products, and mergers and conversions. He has been a leader in structuring affiliations of insurers, brokers and thrifts in anticipation of and as a result of these legislative changes. A major focus of Mr. Beaty's work is on advising corporate leaders on strategic opportunities for financial institutions given the changing world of federal regulations and helping those institutions obtain requisite approvals from federal and state regulators. Mr. Beaty also defends directors and officers of financial institutions in actions brought by regulators. Recently Mr. Beaty represented the U.S. Department of the Treasury in connection with the Capital Purchase Program. Mr. Beaty's long familiarity with federal banking regulators, and his understanding of both the corporate and regulatory environment faced by senior officers and directors of financial institutions, helps him to respond quickly and skillfully to provide practical solutions addressing the critical changing needs of financial institutions and their leaders. Mr. Beaty served as in-house General Counsel to the First American Banks of Virginia, D.C., and Maryland and assisted in selling those institutions to First Union Corporation. He was an Assistant General Counsel at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, serving as head of the Resolution Trust Corporation's Professional Liability Section, and earlier, was an Assistant General Counsel at the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (now the Office of Thrift Supervision).
