John Patterson has extensive experience in a wide range of business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, public and private financings and intellectual property licensing. He also represents U.S. and foreign clients in cross border transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, financings, distribution arrangements and the migrations of companies to and from the U.S. John's practice emphasizes representation of private and public high technology companies, venture capital funds, financial investors and public interest organizations. He counsels clients in private placements and public offerings, mergers and acquisitions and licensing and partnering transactions. John has lectured and participated on panels concerning a wide range of business, technology, licensing, financing and legal issues. He has also played a key role in firm governance, having served as Chair of Foley Hoag's Business Department and as a member of the Executive Committee. John has supervised the sale of major clients for up to $1 billion, including most recently the sale of Art Technology Group, Inc. (ATG) to Oracle. John advises companies during their entire life cycle from formation and early and late stage financings to initial public offerings and sales.
