Biography

John M. Scott's practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, general civil litigation and business matters. He has extensive state and federal court litigation experience in the construction and real estate industries. Mr. Scott has represented borrowers, lenders, owners, developers, contractors and material and labor suppliers. He has successfully represented clients in several high profile commercial real estate projects.

In addition to his considerable knowledge and experience in the commercial litigation and real estate arenas, Mr. Scott has represented clients in intellectual property, unfair competition, breach of contract, personal injury and shareholder disputes. He has advised clients on a broad range of business and legal matters.

Scott earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Baylor University in 1992, where he was a cum laude graduate. He began his professional career as a Certified Public Accountant with KPMG Peat Marwick and is an inactive CPA in Arkansas. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law in 1997 and graduated with highest honors. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable G. Thomas Eisele, Senior United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

Mr. Scott was selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America publication in 2006 in the areas of construction law and commercial litigation. In 2008, he was selected to the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal's "40 Under 40" list. Mr. Scott is a Barrister in the William Putman Inns of Court and a member of the Arkansas Bar Association, where he is on the governing board of the Construction Law Section. He is also a member of the Covington Park Property Owner's Association Board of Directors. Mr. Scott has lectured regularly on construction law topics, including the law of materialman's liens.
