Mr. Joy co-authored the 1995 and 1996 editions of Insurance Coverage Law in Florida, published by National Business Institute. He is a member of the Insurance Law Committee of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), and has served as a lecturer at Florida Bar Continuing Legal Education classes on insurance coverage law. Mr. Joy is certified by the Florida Department of Financial Services as a continuing education instructor and presents frequent seminars for the insurance industry in the areas of insurance coverage law and the proper handling of insurance claims. Mr. Joy is the senior appellate attorney at Walton Lantaff. Over the course of his 30 year legal career, he has handled approximately 200 appellate matters. Mr. Joy has handled appellate cases in all Florida state and federal appellate courts, including the First DCA, Second DCA, Third DCA, Fourth DCA and Fifth DCA; the Florida Supreme Court; and, the federal Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals (Miami and Atlanta divisions). He has numerous published decisions in state and federal appellate courts in the areas of tort and insurance law. Mr. Joy's most noteworthy appellate victory was the 1993 decision of the Florida Supreme Court in Dosdourian v. Carsten which reversed a multimillion dollar verdict against Mr. Joy's client and declared "Mary Carter" settlement agreements void as against public policy in the state of Florida.
