John Malloy concentrates his practice on counseling and representing insurers in first- and third-party coverage matters nationwide. Mr. Malloy has litigated on behalf of primary and excess carriers in a wide variety of coverage matters, including construction-defect liability, toxic tort liability, environmental liability, employee fidelity, and property coverage cases. He has also been involved in litigation on behalf of a domestic reinsurer. Mr. Malloy is national coordinating counsel for a major property and casualty insurer on Chinese drywall claims. He has represented numerous insurers in complex litigation over time-element property damage and liability coverage issues arising out of Hurricane Katrina as well as the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. On the appellate level, he has filed several amicus briefs on behalf of insurers on a variety of insurance coverage issues. In addition to his insurance coverage experience, Mr. Malloy has extensively handled cases involving complex multiparty commercial litigation. Prior to joining Robinson & Cole, Mr. Malloy was a partner in a large Chicago-based coverage firm; an associate with a large coverage firm in Washington, D.C.; and a prosecutor. He is also a former commercial marine underwriter. Professional Associations - American Bar Association, 2003 to present - Connecticut Bar Association, 2004 to present - AIDA Reinsurance and Insurance Arbitration Society, ARIAS US, 2007 to present, Member Community Involvement - Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity, Board of Directors, 2010 to 2011 Experience - Representation of insurer in $250,000 dispute in federal court, Eastern District of Virginia, involving mold and water damage, where plaintiff withdrew the action after a motion for summary judgment was filed. - Representation of insurer in $2.9 million lawsuit in federal court, Eastern District of New York, involving water and mold damage, which settled for less than 15 percent of original demand. - Representation of insurer in complex dispute in federal court, Eastern District of Virginia, over coverage for Chinese drywall involving $5 million in claimed damages. - Representation of a major property and casualty insurer as national coordinating counsel for commercial general liability and property insurance coverage litigation arising from alleged destructive and injurious effects of Chinese-manufactured drywall.
