John Hooks joined Adams and Reese in 1998 and is Partner in Charge of the Jackson office, selected consistently as one of Mississippi's "Best Places to Work" by the Mississippi Business Journal. He also coordinates the firm's associate training program.
John handles a broad range of complex litigation including appellate, employment, banking, construction, products liability, and health care. As part of a litigation prevention plan, John often advises clients on employee policies and offers extensive training programs.
For more than a decade, John has also been part of the firm's Education and Public Entity team. He represents school districts, universities and other public entities in the areas of federal desegregation law, employment discrimination, civil rights claims arising under the United States Constitution, and other litigation matters.
His other significant contributions include:
· Successfully litigating several landmark academic tenure cases in state and federal courts.
· Defending over 35 school districts against more than 1,000 claims of violating federal overtime requirements.
· Working to resolve more than 100 synthetic stucco cases.
· Frequently lecturing on the Mississippi Tort Claims Act, as well as Title VII and 42 U.S.C. § 1983.
John studied international and comparative law at Oxford University. In his spare time, John travels, studies Spanish, and is an avid swimmer. He is also Chair of Georgetown University's alumni program for Mississippi.
