John Bonds, who is a member of Sutherland's Litigation Practice Group, focuses his practice primarily on the trial and arbitration of complex business and governmental cases, including insurance, reinsurance, tax, eminent domain and public finance. His trial and appellate experience has led him to state and federal courts in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wyoming and the U.S. Tax Court.
Before attending law school, John was a pilot and aircraft commander in the United States Air Force, serving at various locations in the United States and Southeast Asia.
Representative Experience
John's recent representative experience includes:
· Representing the State of New York in a major lawsuit challenging the distribution of the state's education aid and the adequacy of the 1.1 million-student New York City School System.
· Representing a major electrical generation and transmission corporation in cases challenging the statewide system of real property assessment in Georgia.
· Acting as lead counsel on behalf of a major political subdivision in contested bond validity proceedings.
· Successfully achieving a $225 million judgment in a complex reinsurance case.
· Successfully achieving a $100 million-plus decision on behalf of a major corporate client in the U.S. Tax Court.
