JOHNNY MA is a registered patent prosecution attorney in the firm's Electrical Patent Prosecution group. He represents clients in protecting their core technologies and obtaining patents for standards aimed at increasing recognition of their technologies as international standards.
Mr. Ma prosecutes non-provisional and reissue patent applications relating to a wide range of technologies including printers, cameras, displays, networking, wireless communications, semiconductors, power devices and information processing.
In addition to prosecuting non-provisional and reissue applications, Mr. Ma's patent application work includes filing and converting provisional applications and drafting new applications.
Before joining Oblon, Spivak, Mr. Ma was a Patent Examiner in interactive video distribution systems at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This work included video on demand, commercial/message insertion or substitution, electronic program guide interfaces and functionality, and access control or blocking.

Provides patent prosecution and counsel to many global companies, working closely with in-house counsel in those companies to build patent portfolios in targeted areas.
Has represented the firms' clients at oral hearings before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences (BPAI), where he presented oral arguments and addressed issues raised by the presiding judges.
Works closely with clients in preparing tailored claim language and negotiating such language with the Patent Examiner.
