| Biography | Jon S. Barooshian joined Cooley Manion Jones LLP in 1999 and maintains a dynamic practice focusing on complex civil litigation, white collar criminal litigation, and civil and criminal tax controversies. Mr. Barooshian is also Assistant National Counsel and a member of the national trial team for an international products manufacturer. As such, he is responsible for the defense of thousands of toxic tort cases across the country and directs a vast network of local counsel throughout the United States including its territories. Some of Mr. Barooshian's recent accomplishments include: Negotiated resolution of parallel criminal and civil proceedings on behalf of husband and wife business owners indicted for evading taxes on more than $1 million in revenue. Clients were the only targets of the investigation, which focused on seven individuals, to avoid incarceration. Investigated client allegation of fraudulent invoice and expense practices unraveling widespread scheme saving the client hundreds of thousands of dollars annually. Avoided conviction for client accused of burglarizing a local institution and discharging a weapon at police officers citing mental health and substance abuse as mitigating factors. Avoided indictment for client accused of laundering more than $500,000 of illicit proceeds and avoided complete forfeiture of property used to facilitate the alleged crime. Presented seminar on "Low Dose" defense strategies at Harris-Martin's Asbestos Litigation Conference: Peripheral No More, Part II on March 1, 2007 at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel, Beverly Hills, CA. Prior to joining Cooley Manion Jones, Mr. Barooshian was an Assistant District Attorney for Norfolk County from 1995-1999 where he was responsible for investigating and prosecuting matters involving financial crimes, controlled substances and other major felonies. Mr. Barooshian earned an LL.M. from the Graduate Tax Program at Boston University School of Law, a J.D. from Massachusetts School of Law, and a B.B.A. in 3 Finance from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Mr. Barooshian is admitted to practice in all State Courts of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the United States Tax Court. |
