Practice/Industry Group Overview
The Jones Vargas Energy Practice Area offers a focused combination of seasoned skill sets and knowledge drawn from the broad lawyer resources in the firm. We can bring these resources to bear as counsel for our energy clients with a special emphasis in renewable and regulated energy. Likewise, and consistent with the theme, “We Know Nevada,” the Energy Practice Area provides complementary service and value to clients who enter or participate in the Nevada market with existing out-of-state counsel. This approach recognizes the practical reality that many energy clients operate in multiple jurisdictions; and many times have standing relationships with law firms who are not licensed to practice in Nevada or do not have a deep understanding of Nevada law and custom. We do. In providing legal resource and support in these areas, the Energy Practice Area can achieve enhanced efficiencies and effectiveness by coupling the extensive public and private sector relationships Jones Vargas has cultivated in Nevada over many years together with state and local know-how, all of which is naturally a part of “knowing Nevada.” The focused collection of Jones Vargas lawyers provides direct as well as complementary legal resource and support for the following areas: - Securing project site and transmission corridor rights on and over both public and private lands (such as ground leases, fee interests, easements, rights-of-way and licenses)
- Securing required project entitlements from applicable local jurisdiction (such as zoning issues, special use permits and development agreements)
- Assistance in permit application and prosecution for all applicable local, state and federal allowance and operational permits
- All forms of project financing (including document review, comment and negotiation, and rendering local counsel opinions)
- Representing clients before the Public Utility Commission, WECC, FERC and other regulatory agencies
